DARKO LUNGULOV - jury member of the sixteenth Belgrade International Film Festival for and by people with disabilities

Darko Lungulov completed film studies at CCNY, New York, USA, and a Master's degree in dramaturgy at FDU.

He is currently a doctoral candidate at the Department of Dramaturgy at FDU.

In 2004, his documentary ESCAPE (2004) won the audience award at the Hamptons International Film Festival. The film was then included in the program of the IDFA 2004 festival; FEST 2005; Leipzig Documentary Film Festival 2005, GoEast 2005, Santiago De Chile International Film Festival among others.

His debut feature film, There and Here, won Best New York Story at the 2009 Tribeca Festival and received rave reviews in The Hollywood Reporter, Variety, and The New York Times. The film won 20 awards at more than 50 international film festivals. In cinema distribution was in: USA, Germany, Switzerland, Hungary, Greece, screening rights sold in 21 countries. It was the first film from Serbia on Netflix from 2010-2012, and later on the Amazon Prime platform, where it is still streaming.

FIPRESCI Serbia declared Darko the best director in 2009.

Monument to Michael Jackson, his second feature film, had its world premiere in Karlovy Vary in 2014. Among others, he received the Eastern European Film Award at the Santa Barbara Festival in 2015, the Grand Prix Zlatna Mimosa, for the best film at the Herceg Novi Festival in 2014. Shown at over 40 festivals, he received 8 awards.

As a co-writer, he collaborated with Mirjana Karanović on her directorial debut, the film Good Woman, which had its world premiere at the Sundance Festival in 2016.

Darko directed 18 episodes of the TV series SUSPICIBLE FACES based on the motifs of Nušić's People's Representative and Mrs. Minister. The series was shown on RTS in 2016 and 2017.

He was co-producer and co-director of the feature-length documentary The Best Goalkeeper in the World, which premiered in September 2022.

As a director consultant, he worked on the second directorial venture of actress Mirjana Karanović, the film Majka Mar, which had its world premiere at Sarajevo IFF 2024, and was then shown at numerous international festivals.

Darko's latest film, Yu Grupa - A Moment of Sleep premiered at FEST 2023, and at the March Festival of Short and Documentary Films 2023, it won the Grand Prix as well as the awards for Best Editing and Best Sound Design. It was also shown at the Sofia IFF 2024, ZagrebDox 2024 and Underhill 2024 festivals.

Darko is the winner of the annual Award of the City of Belgrade for 2023 for contribution to film, as well as the Annual Award of UFUS (Association of Film Artists of Serbia) for directing the best documentary film in 2023.
