A word from Darko Ivic, the Director of Bosifest 2016

May 19 2016

BOSIFEST is an international film festival for and by people with disabilities, the only one of that kind in Southeast Europe, taking place in Serbia for the seventh time. A great number of films will be screened this year too – in the competitive as well as the non-competitive part.

Until now, within BOSIFEST, 300 films dealing with the theme of the people with disabilities or the authors of the films are people with disabilities have been screened.

Beside presenting films, BOSIFEST offers accompanying programs as well, in forms of workshops, panel discussions and round tables.

The films at BOSIFEST suggest creative work and possibilities for the participants on the public cultural scene and also the spreading of the message that the people with disabilities should have equal rights and responsibilities as the other citizens. In that way, this festival gives a strongstimulation for equal participation rights and the integration of the people with disabilities into the society.

This festival has joined other world festivals which have been dealing solely with creating films about the people with disabilities for many years, as well as the films whose authors are the people with disabilities.

The festival offers a priceless contribution into including the people with disabilities into the creative reality of our society because of their artistic skills and other potentials that they have.

During the Festival we will be greeting foreign authors, whose films will be screened at the Festival, as well as the directors of many European festivals, who will take part in the workshops. Within the Festival, many contacts between the authors and with the festival participants have been made, and in that way international relations have been created, by sharing their opinions and experiences.

When the festival is over, we want to continue promoting the films to be screened on some of the summer festivals, because we consider that many young people should see these realizations, and that inclusion should be implemented into the whole society.
